In Kenyan women’s football, some players shine through flair, while others command matches through quiet authority. Corazone Aquino has built her career on the latter. Calm under pressure and tactically astute, the Nairobi-born midfielder has grown into one of the country’s most reliable football figures.

Born on October 2, 1998, Aquino began playing at the age of nine in Makongeni, inspired by her mother. Her early development at Mosa Babes, now President Kimaro FC, laid the foundation for a disciplined and intelligent style of play. She later rose through the Kenyan

Women Premier League ranks, featuring for Vihiga Queens, Soccer Queens and Gaspo Women, where her ability to dictate tempo and break up opposition attacks earned national recognition.

Her consistency secured her a place in Kenya’s national team, the Harambee Starlets. As a teenager, she was part of the historic squad that qualified for the 2016 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations — a milestone moment for Kenyan women’s football. Since then, she has remained a central figure in midfield, trusted to anchor the team in high-pressure regional and continental fixtures.

In 2020, Aquino took her talent abroad, signing for Atlético Ouriense in Portugal. The move exposed her to European competition and sharpened her tactical awareness. She now plies her trade with Simba Queens in Tanzania, continuing to demonstrate the composure and intelligence that define her game.

More than a ball-winner, Aquino is a reader of the game, anticipating danger, maintaining possession, and linking defence to attack with efficiency. Off the pitch, she advocates for discipline and fair treatment in women’s sport, reflecting the resilience associated with her namesake, former Philippine president Corazon Aquino.

As Kenyan women’s football continues to grow, Corazone Aquino remains a steady presence at its core — a midfielder whose influence extends far beyond the centre circle.
