In a statement performance that thrilled fans and sent a message in the 2025/26 FKF Premier League (SportPesa League) title race, AFC Leopards delivered a five-star display to overwhelm Shabana FC 5-1 at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday evening.
Leopards set the tone early, going ahead in the 17th minute through Samuel Semo, who coolly finished after a well-worked free-kick routine. The home side doubled their advantage right on the stroke of half-time when Tyson Otieno converted with a composed finish, sending the hosts into the break with a two-goal cushion.
Shabana briefly threatened to turn the tide after half-time, with Wycliffe Omondi pulling one back in the 61st minute to make it 2-1. But the Glamour Boys’ hopes of a comeback were short-lived. Just seven minutes later, Samuel Ssenyonjo restored Leopards’ two-goal lead with a clinical strike.
The match was punctuated by chaotic scenes as tear gas was deployed inside the stadium amid rising tensions, forcing a temporary halt in play. However, once order was restored, Leopards picked up right where they left off.
Kayci Odhiambo added a fourth for Ingwe with a thunderous effort in the 70th minute before Ssenyonjo completed his brace just minutes later to seal the emphatic 5-1 victory.
Leopards’ attacking show keeps them firmly in the hunt for honours this season, trimming the gap to league leaders and maintaining pressure at the top. Shabana, on the other hand, now have plenty to ponder after a heavy defeat.
Player of the Match was awarded to Samuel Ssenyonjo for his match-winning brace and constant threat in and around the box.
